Lee Putman, a Stratus master franchisee servicing central Indiana, including Indianapolis, Ft. Wayne, Bloomington and surrounding areas, has overseen one of the franchises fastest-growing territories. Putman says that success is due to his talented staff, and in particular, the work of Account Sales Representative Matt Nikirk, who had limited formal sales experience prior to joining Stratus.

Im a big believer that its not necessarily the background that matters, Putman said of hiring Nikirk in September 2018. I wanted somebody who had potential to grow, and thats definitely Matt. Im really looking for someone with skills and talents that fit.

Putman knew of those skills after connecting with Nikirk at a country club where Nikirk worked. One of a variety of jobs, from working at the Childrens Museum in Indianapolis to training and working as a PGA golf pro, Nikirks experiences offered a chance to interact with people, which he says has been invaluable to making connections both with Putman and now with Stratus clients.

Ive certainly gained a lot of skills, said Nikirk of his path to Stratus. All of my jobs have been very people-oriented. Ive never wanted a desk job, and though this has a little of that, becoming a part of this company makes me feel very fortunate and lucky to be in this position. I didnt have direct sales experience, but the only reason Im half as good as I am is that Ive had Lee to work with.

Putman, also a minority owner in the Grand Rapids and Louisville territories, says his hiring experience shows how Stratus Building Solutions offers opportunity for people of all backgrounds and career paths.
