Honorees were nominated by Business Journal readers and staff and chosen through a vote of their peers. A large company was defined as having between 150-499 employees.
It was an honor to be recognized by the Business Journal, but it never would have happened without the great work day after day by our outstanding employees, Otto said. When my grandfather, John F. Otto, founded this company, he did so on what we call The Otto Way. For 75 years, we have followed those values of hard work, honesty, integrity, and compassion for others, and we will continue to do so for the next 75 years as well.
Otto joined the company 22 years ago to work with her dad, Carl Otto, to initiate the companys first marketing department. Later, in her roles as vice president and then executive vice president, she played an integral part in successfully delivering multimillion-dollar projects for the California State University system, Northern California school districts, and a wide variety of other projects. She became President and CEO in 2021.
Last year, the company completed construction on the SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity in Sacramento, which combined a century-old power plant and a new planetarium wing into what is already a regional icon. The project earned Otto a coveted Constructor Award from the Associated General Contractors and a Vision Honors Award from the Sacramento chapter of the Urban Land Institute.
This year, Otto recently completed work on the Into the Deep exhibit at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, as well as construction on the North Natomas Community Center and Aquatics Complex, complete with waterslides, a kids play area, and an Olympic-sized pool that the community hopes will attract national competitions.
