Gilbane Building Company Receives Providence Business News Diversity and Inclusion Award

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (PRWEB) December 09, 2021 - Gilbane Building Company received the 2021 Providence Business News (PBN) Diversity & Inclusion Award in the category of Architecture/Construction/Design at PBNs annual award ceremony in Providence, Rhode Island.

Recognized for an internal commitment to advancing diversity and fostering a culture of inclusion, Gilbane was also commended for its dedication to cultivating a diverse workforce and providing opportunity for minority and women-owned subcontractors within the construction industry.

Gilbane is committed to furthering inclusion and diversity industrywide. This year, Gilbane joined with five other construction management firms to launch the inaugural Construction Inclusion Week, in October. With the theme of Building the Foundation for Inclusion, Construction Inclusion Week invites every member of the construction industry to unite to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion. By working together, learning from one another, and being consistent in commitments and actions towards maintaining a safe and inclusive work environment free of harassment, hate, or bigotry of any kind Construction Inclusion Week aims to create positive change in the industry for generations of workers to come.

Internally, Gilbanes employee resource groups (ERGs) for women, veterans, young professionals, LGBTQIA employees, Black/African American employees, Asian, Asian American, Pacific Islander employees, and Hispanic employees provide the platform to bring different voices to the table. The ERGs host and sponsor various events and areas for professional development throughout the year, creating a sense of belonging among employees and allowing everyone to bring their authentic selves to work each day.

Gilbane also focuses on programs and outreach to enhance opportunity for participation from diverse businesses on its projects, including its Gilbane Rising Contractor program which is designed to help grow certified trade contractors. The company has created dedicated roles focused on both economic and internal inclusion and diversity. To help drive economic inclusion, Gilbane develops procurement strategies designed to maximize participation, engages diverse subcontractor participation through outreach, encourages meaningful contracting opportunities, initiates mentor protg relationships, creates strategies to help firms build capacity, and examines ways to reduce barriers to success.
