BOULDER, Colo. (PRWEB) April 13, 2021 - While the job market is showing signs of a more sustained recovery, some industries are improving at faster rates than others. To help job seekers identify which careers are promising prospects for flexible jobs, FlexJobs analyzed more than 50 career categories in its database to determine 13 flexible career categories that have grown more than 10% since the new year began. FlexJobs has also provided a detailed job application checklist to help improve the job searching process.

Numerous signs suggest the economy and job market is improving, including an increase in hiring, said Sara Sutton, founder and CEO of FlexJobs. Our data reflects this as well, particularly within certain industries. As this list demonstrates, flexible job postings have picked up in a variety of careers, signaling that recovery is strengthening for knowledge workers across the board. However, it is still a turbulent job market, so I recommend job seekers really focus on honing their skillsboth the hard skills needed for the job, but also overall soft skills that are important in the professional world, Sutton concluded.

The 13 career categories below have seen flexible work job listings grow more than 10% when comparing the number of jobs created in March 2021 to January 2021. They are ordered from highest to lowest growth. A flexible job is defined as a professional-level job that has a remote, flexible schedule, part-time, or freelance component.

1. Virtual Administration 2. HR & Recruiting 3. Nonprofit 4. SEO/SEM 5. Bookkeeping 6. Marketing 7. Call Center 8. Bilingual 9. Social Media 10. Writing 11. Graphic Design 12. Advertising & PR 13. Project Management

FlexJobs has also provided a detailed job application checklist to help improve the job searching process and increase the likelihood of candidates getting selected for interviews.

Job Application Checklist

1. Target your job search to the companies and roles you are most interested in. When you cast a wide net and apply for anything and everything, youre far less likely to find success.

2. Customize your cover letter and tailor your resume. Taking the time to explain why you are the right person for this role using concrete examples will increase the likelihood you hear back from interested employers.

3. Work your network! Virtually or in-person, reaching out to your professional network can be a great resource to find jobs that arent posted on job boards or with companies you may have never considered.

4. Optimize your application for the applicant tracking system (ATS). Use keywords from the posting in your application and skip fancy resume fonts that are hard to read.

5. Use a professional email address that includes some version of your name from a reputable email service (i.e., gmail).

6. Always include a cover letter with applications, unless the job posting explicitly says not to. Its one more chance for you to sell yourself and inject a little personality into your application.

7. Make sure you proofread your application before you hit submit. When in doubt, ask someone you trust to give your materials a once over first.

8. Make sure your social media profiles are professional and polished. The vast majority of employers will do an online search of candidates theyre interested in. Or, consider creating two separate versions, one personal and one private.

9. Spend some time refining your LinkedIn profile. Make sure your profile is up to date and complete (e.g., a current photo, a well-written summary, etc.). You can even consider writing a blog post that showcases your expertise and experience in your field.

10. Include a link to your personal website. This may not be necessary for every career field, but in some roles (i.e., marketing, creative, web design), its a great place to show off your work samples to potential employers.

11. If you see a posting for a fabulous job that screams your name, apply as soon as you can. If youre seeing it for the first time after its been posted for a week or two, its still not too late to apply.

12. Always follow the instructions. Try to follow the instructions of the job listing exactly as they appear so that your application passes through the ATSand gains the approval of the hiring manager.

13. Follow up on your applications. This way, you can make sure the hiring manager received your materials, answer questions they might have for you, and get on their radar.

14. Avoid job search burnout. If youre spending all day every day applying to job after job or arent as engaged in your job search as you were at the start, take a break to refresh and recharge!
