CORAL GABLES, Fla. (PRWEB) March 01, 2023 - As the new year gets settled, The Property Advocates reflect back on the special holiday event that ended its 2022 year. The full-service Florida insurance law firm and expert in property insurance claims teamed up with Legal Aid Society to participate in and support Legal Aid Societys annual holiday bike giveaway and toy drive.

The Legal Aid Society of the Orange County Bar Association, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that began its operations in the early 1960s. A group of attorneys who were members of the Orange County Bar Association started the Legal Aid Society as a volunteer organization. Attorneys would volunteer to service local residents unable to pay for an attorney by taking referrals in civil and criminal cases. It was not until 1967, when the Legal Aid Society was formally recognized by Florida as a nonprofit organization under the name that it is now known to this day. The nonprofit is also honored to be deemed as Orange Countys Trusted Legal Aid Organization.

Since opening its doors, the Legal Aid Society has handled 4,238 cases and assisted 1,549 children. In addition, 2,752 attorneys have volunteered with the nonprofit.

During this past December 2022, The Property Advocates joined other community partners and companies to embody Legal Aid Societys mission to collect and distribute thousands of toys, books, and bikes to Central Florida residents. Other partners included Kyles Bike Shop, Kathleen The Bike Fairy Downs, Jordan Law, DR&ML, Cushman & Wakefield, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Orlando Police, Publix Employees Federal Credit Union, Orange County Public Schools, Two Men and a Truck, and Orange County Government of Florida.

The mission behind Legal Aid Societys annual holiday toy drive is to fight for justice inside and outside of the courtroom while taking steps to decrease poverty and push toward bettering tomorrow. The organization believes these strides should start with securing the youth of Central Florida.

The Legal Aid Society helps to protect the rights of thousands of neglected, abandoned, and abused children through its Guardian ad Litem (GAL) program. The children that GAL represents are provided with free toys, books, and bikes during the several events each year that the Legal Aid Society hosts. GAL started in the early 1970s. By 1978, the State of Florida mandated the appointment of GAL for children involved in neglect or abuse cases. This government action led to the initiation of statewide efforts to build a formal GAL Program.

As a part of its annual holiday bike giveaway and toy drive, the Legal Aid Society and all its joining partners strive to bring holiday cheer and happiness to the youngest of Legal Aid Societys clients. Events such as Legal Aid Societys holiday bike and toy drive help children facing the challenges that might come with being in the judicial dependency system preserve a part of their innocent childhoods through the spirit of holiday giving. The Property Advocates invites those moved by Legal Aid Societys operations and mission to support the proactive work the nonprofit continues to do for Central Florida residents.
