LITTLE ROCK, Ariz. (PRWEB) June 29, 2023 - Dark Horse CPAs, a top accounting and tax firm serving small businesses and individuals across the nation, announces the promotion of Joe Proffitt to Principal. Joes relationships with clients and colleagues alike, along with a strong desire and ability to live out the values and mission of Dark Horse CPAs earned him a seat at the table, becoming an equity Principal of the firm.
Joe entered the Dark Horse Principal Accelerator Program in January 2022 and quickly built a 6-figure practice. He has a widely appreciated sense of humor and lightheartedness that is the bedrock of the rapport and relationships he has with his colleagues and clients. He also very much believes in the American small business and entrepreneur which, combined with his professional expertise, makes him not just a friend, but an ally. Due to the aforementioned, the decision was made to promote him to Principal effective February 2023.
Speaking to the challenges posed by the Accelerator Program, Joe stated, Keeping up with the rapidly accelerating client load while learning how to be my own manager was like drinking out of a fire hose! I started as tax season was ramping up so that added some fuel to the fire I was trying to extinguish with the hose I was drinking from.
When asked about the most rewarding aspect of his journey in the Accelerator Program, he responded, Im not mad about the equity! Seriously though, its a privilege to have clients that I genuinely care about both as people and professionals. Before joining Dark Horse, I didnt think their business model that provides the autonomy to build the practice you want while simultaneously receiving support at the firm-level could exist in public accounting. I dont see how the old partnership model will be able to compete against this progressive model in the coming decades as-is. Theyre going to be forced to move in the direction of Dark Horses model in order to survive, which will be good for the profession as a whole. Im just glad I get to help lead the charge here.
In regard to what differed most from his expectations, he explained, I expected there to be a set of standard, relatively inflexible systems and processes. What I found was clear documentation and instruction combined with an openness to exploring ways to do things better, and adapt existing resources to meet the individual needs of Accelerators and Principals. In other words, the humility to say this how we do it in the here and now but we know we can always improve so we want you to be part of the ideation and creation of better ways to practice accounting.
And, as to what he would want other potential Accelerators to know about the Program, to extend the metaphor even further, the Accelerator Program was a true trial by fire. It was challenging to balance learning all of the technology, meeting with prospective clients, sending proposals, engaging, onboarding and doing the actual work. In retrospect, it was probably the best way to find out if I was cut out for this role and whether it could be my lifes work. It was overwhelming at times, but nothing good comes without some level of sacrifice.
Moving forward, Joe looks forward to, continuing to evolve my skills and practice as well as collaborate with my compatriots here at Dark Horse. Im consistently blown away by the brilliance and humor Im surrounded by in our internal communications. There are a lot of quick-witted folks working here, which I very much appreciate.
When you talk to Joe, you know Joe, says Chase Birky, CEO & co-founder of Dark Horse CPAs. Theres no false pretense, just a genuine human being on the other end telling you things as they see them. Hes also someone who is very purpose-driven, which is something I look for in anyone who works for Dark Horse. Combining that with a palpable sense of gratitude and grit are the ingredients for long-term successand happiness.
About the Dark Horse Accelerator Program
The Dark Horse Principal Accelerator Program was created for entrepreneurially-minded CPAs that want to build a scalable book of business without the personal and financial sacrifices required of starting a firm from scratch. Dark Horse empowers their CPAs with the resources and support to grow intelligently and profitably. Their proprietary technology, flexible staffing and industry-leading systems and processes enable CPAs to focus on being the trusted advisor to their clients, unlocking unprecedented value in these relationships, so that they will continue to be relevant long into the future while their counterparts become increasingly displaced by technology.
Accelerators are put through a training program that acclimates them to the firms exclusive tech stack, followed by proprietary sales training and one-on-one coaching. Upon completion of training, they begin building their book of business by fielding inquiries from potential Dark Horse clients. To facilitate their growth, Accelerators have full-time and fractional professional personnel support at their disposal. A collaborative group of like-minded CPAs go the extra mile to help them out in areas where they lack expertise. This new CPA firm business model includes an active corporate team that ensures their work is of high quality and strategically focused. After successful completion of the program, they can become an equity principal of the firm.
The Dark Horse Principal Accelerator Program is currently accepting new Accelerators. Interested CPAs are invited to dive deeper into the program on Dark Horse's recruiting site, abetterway.cpa or by emailing info@darkhorse.cpa About Dark Horse CPAs
